 Analog timer in a digital world February 27, 2010

It's a one for one replacement of my original Malibu light timer/transformer which lasted about 7 years. Easy to install - does what it's supposed to. Got it quickly. Went to Home Depot after I bought this and found the transformer timers are now programmable - digital clock-driven. Had I known, would have gotten digital model. Wasn't happy to have to buy entire new unit to replace a simple clock drive (Malibu doesn't sell the timer drive separately even though it's trivial to replace it.)

The Malibu Intermatic Timer is the best for landscape lighting. I added more 11v landscape lights to my outside lights, so I needed a 300 watt transformer. It is easy to install...screw the two wires on the back and plug it in. It does make a little noise but it turns the lights on/off automatically.

This power pack works fine for the month I've used it intermittently. No surprise with it's basic functions. There are several annoyances that make it unworthy of a higher score. The labels stuck to the cover (inside) keep peeling off and it's not subject to any temperatures extremes, just 50s and 60s here in Arizona. The cover isn't hinged to stay upright and thetimer dial is cheap, as others have noted. The unit buzzes fairly loudly at times because of something with the internals that wants to vibrate. It changes volume from moment to moment.
